My Approaches

My name is Dr. Nkem. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with nine years of experience, and have a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision; supervising mental health Counselors in training. My experience comprises of working with people living with various mental health/behavioral conditions, to include severe / persistent mental illnesses, co-occurring disorders, and group counseling.

I have developed my expertise in work environments that include a behavioral modification (partial hospitalization) program and community mental health counseling.  My volunteer work, speaking to my compassionate approach, includes volunteering at a Veteran hospice program. I hold a belief that everyone is deserving of unconditional positive regard. As a culturally competent Therapist, I strive to be effectively supportive at the individual, professional, organizational, and societal level.

I engage with various therapies to include Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Depending on the presenting concern, I conceptualize with these models that offer insight and direction on faulty thinking/patterns beliefs; encourage self-awareness; identify trauma history; determine co-morbidity; and explore the unconscious. I am here to support you, knowing there is no one size fits all approach.
